Description

The Milalao scented candle is wrapped in hand-crocheted raffia from our women’s cooperative in Madagascar. The bayadère striped pattern, a mix of lemon yellow and acid green on a natural background, is reminiscent of the deckchairs on the beaches of the Côte d’Azur. A yellow embroidered ruffle across the top makes this scented candle a genuine decorative object inspired by the world of fashion.

Milalao means «to play» in Malagasy.

Know-how

Know-how Know-how Know-how

Raphia is an endemic plant species harvested every year. The leaves are dried, then cut into long strips for dyeing and crocheting. Our women's cooperative in Madagascar has been making our Raphia candles for 8 years, under the impetus of our creative direction. The motifs are first designed and then produced by the crocheters in Madagascar. This annual project enables women to make a decent living and send their children to school.

Use

The quality of our scented candles involves a specific burning ritual. Each time the candle is burned, it is important to wait until the entire surface liquefies before extinguishing the candle. This will prevent the formation of craters which are unattractive and make burning more difficult. The first time you light your candle, it will always burn for longer than on subsequent occasions. Allow time for the first layer of wax to liquefy completely. The length of time this takes varies depending on the size of the candle.

Never burn the last 1cm (1/2 inch) of wax to avoid flames burning against the glass.

OUR FAVOURITE OF THE MONTH

The Yarani scented candle pays tribute to this famous classified forest from Abidjan. The shades of green and blue represent a baobab forest designed by talented artists from Uniwax, the Ivorian wax fabric company.

20,000 baobab trees have been planted in the Yarani protected forest by the Cœur Vert foundation, thanks to funds raised from the sale of our Sacred Trees collections.
